Frequently asked questions
What BC heating rebates can a gas-heated home get today?
On October 15, 2026 the main options were the FortisBC dual fuel rebate (up to $4,000, or $8,000 if your household is income-qualified), a set of FortisBC income-qualified rebates for windows, doors, insulation, bathroom fans and thermostats, the CleanBC Energy Savings Program for income-qualified homes, and Northern BC programs. See them side by side in the 2026 rebate list.
Which BC rebates changed most recently?
FortisBC’s October 15, 2026 relaunch: dual fuel at up to $4,000 ($8,000 income-qualified) plus income-qualified windows, doors, insulation, fans and thermostat rebates.
Is there a heat pump rebate for gas homes in the Lower Mainland?
Yes: dual fuel through FortisBC, or CleanBC’s income-qualified program. The regular fuel-switching rebate has been closed since April 11, 2025.
Is the rebate application my job or the installer’s?
Yours, typically within six months of the paid invoice. Your installer handles the DSMAlly commissioning submission for dual fuel.
Does my contractor need special credentials?
Yes. Heat pump and dual fuel rebates generally require an HPCN member listed for the rebate, and gas work requires a TSBC-licensed gas contractor.
Do I have to pre-register?
CleanBC’s income-qualified program requires it. FortisBC recommends it for income-qualified rebates.
Can I still use Greener Homes?
No, both the grant and loan have closed.
Tell me about the National Heat Pump Rebate.
A federal program announced October 8, 2026: up to $10,000 below median income, $2,000 above, with launch expected in early 2027.
Is there PST on heat pumps in BC?
No PST on heat pumps since 2022, versus 12% on gas heating equipment. Confirm with the Ministry of Finance.
Can I double up rebates on one system?
No, one system gets one heating rebate. Other upgrades and the two-upgrade bonus can be added.
How much can my household earn and still qualify?
A family of four qualifies for Level 1 (and FortisBC income-qualified) at $94,900 or less, Level 2 at $118,600, and Level 3 at $189,800 for gas-to-heat-pump switches only.
What if my furnace fails suddenly?
It can, but warranty and insurance replacements don’t qualify and the old furnace must be photographed. Call HeatLand before committing.
Do gas-to-gas furnace swaps earn a rebate?
Generally not this year. Dual fuel is the rebate route: up to $4,000, or $8,000 income-qualified.
When does the rebate cheque come?
Allow up to 90 days from a complete application, per FortisBC.
